Gaza assault 'may be open-ended'

"Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has warned that Israel's offensive in Gaza to free a captured soldier and stop rocket fire could continue indefinitely.

"This is a war that cannot be on a timetable," Mr Olmert is quoted as telling Israel's cabinet. Israel pressed on with air strikes on Sunday, wounding several Palestinians, including militants and civilians. Scores of Palestinians have died in the two-week old campaign, which has also battered Gaza's infrastructure..."

As always, Israel cries out "the world hates us!", yet it enjoys unconditional support from the US and the "Quartet".

A few muzzled mutterings from the UN of course and that's it.

Israel is willing to destroy Gaza entirely in the name of Cpl Shalit? No, of course not. Young Gilad is being used as a convenient excuse for the IDF to test Olmert's mettle and for Olmert to unite the Israelis in the cause for war.

Holy cow...

More interestingly, they have no gasoline there, no water etc etc, and yet are on the sea. Why cant humanitarians ship in all the gas and water and food they need?

Gaza is not land locked; what is preventing such a flotilla of aid from Italy or any of the other countries that share the med?

Its pathetic.

You know the answer to your own question, anon.

Spit it out. Use another name if it makes it easier.

The answer is that Israel is no more than a US garrsion. Other people [friends as well as foes] interfere in US business and military operations at their peril.

But when the time is right and it suits them to, the US will throw Israel to the wolves without a second thoughts. And by god, what a pack of wolves will be waiting. So many, many, scores to be settled.

The US throw Israel to the wolves? Twenty years ago I would never have thought it possible, but today....

Not one stone would be left on top of another.
