Obama mania
Give Obama his credit, he seems on the surface pretty likable, a very charismatic speaker, he did tremendously well with his campaign. But I saw a bit of Question Time tonight, and it underlined how Obama mania is out of control, and actually quite reminiscent of when Labour and Tony Blair came to power promising their 'Third Way' back in 1997. Anyone remember ? Even satirical things like Rory Bremner at the time presented a loving poem lavishly dedicated to Labour winning the election. All this stuff, and talk of a 'huge mandate' and 'change' is very dangerous of course, and Americans may not be prepared for what that could mean.
I also caught a bit of This Week with Andrew Neil, unsurprisingly dedicated to more of the same and he had on Clarence Jones who (co-?) wrote the "I had a Dream" speech for Martin Luther King. They were talking about how non Obama-voters will 'adapt' to Obama and he let slip a little thing about 'The White Mind'.
We'll see what happens.

We have not had to wait too long:

The Obama Administration will call on Americans to serve in order to meet the nation’s challenges. President-Elect Obama will expand national service programs like AmeriCorps and Peace Corps and will create a new Classroom Corps to help teachers in underserved schools, as well as a new Health Corps, Clean Energy Corps, and Veterans Corps. Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year. Obama will encourage retiring Americans to serve by improving programs available for individuals over age 55, while at the same time promoting youth programs such as Youth Build and Head Start.

the key word here is 'REQUIRE'.
When a lawyer says 'require' he means that and only that.
Obama is going to fulfill his promises...all the worst ones it seems.
I like everyone else would like to withhold judgment until he takes office, but this is not a good start at all.
Youth brigades, compulsory service, a civilian defense force; all of these things are the stuff of nightmares and sci-fi dystopias.
Gosh did they create a subdomain for Obama 'change.gov', that's a bit spooky isn't it ??
Look's like Obama's change is trying to create a 'social responsibility' army.
